Bristol-Myers Squibb Fellowship

This fellowship is sponsored in collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb.

This fellowship program will provide the training and experience needed to compete successfully for positions as a health outcomes researcher in the pharmaceutical industry and consulting.

This fellowship is open to students who, by the date at which the fellowship begins, will have finished two years of PhD coursework in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the Department of Health Policy and Management in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health or the Department of Epidemiology in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, good organizational abilities, and evidence of leadership and team work.

The fellowship program starts July 1. The fellowship offers a competitive stipend, and provides health insurance, tuition and fees, and a discretionary fund used for conference travel, software, and the purchase of books.

Program Description

The BMS-UNC Worldwide Health Economics and Outcomes Research Pre-doctoral fellowship is offered for two years with annual reappointment unless otherwise indicated. Students are expected to spend 20 hours per week on BMS-related activities with the remaining time spent on dissertation-related work. Although the majority of work on BMS and dissertation projects may be conducted in Chapel Hill, fellows are required to make several in-person trips to BMS during the course of the fellowship.  The purpose of on-site work is to provide practical, hands-on experience as a health outcomes researcher in the biopharmaceutical industry setting.  Specifically, fellows will have the opportunity to work in New Jersey at one of the BMS facilities for 6 weeks during the summer and will make 1-3 trips to work with their preceptor during the school year.
