Donna Gutterman, Pharm.D., M.B.A., a 1979 graduate of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and president of pharmaceutical and medical consulting firm Onesta, Inc., is the 2015 recipient of the UNC Pharmacy Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award.

Gutterman has served on the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Foundation Board since 2012 and the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors since 2004. In 2010, she and her family endowed a scholarship at the School and in 2014, they increased that endowment to create the first full‐tuition scholarship at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

“Dr. Gutterman is dedicated to the high ideals of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and has committed her time, talent and treasure to helping make those ideals a reality,” said Bob Blouin, dean of the School. “She brings many years of experience and leadership from the pharmaceutical industry to constructively challenge and improve the strategies developed and deployed by the School. I have known Dr. Gutterman for many years — in fact taught her pharmacokinetics while at the University of Kentucky — and can attest to her passion and love for Carolina.”

Gutterman received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from UNC in 1979 and went on to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky before returning to UNC to complete an M.B.A. at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. She spent more than 20 years with GlaxoSmithKline, working her way from assistant director of clinical research to vice president of marketing.

Gutterman launched Onesta Inc. in 2010 as a consulting firm for the pharmaceutical and medical industries that assists with medical marketing activities, product strategy, digital marketing strategies and electronic health records. She is also vice president, medical for Zynerba Pharmaceuticals, which is dedicated to the development of next generation synthetic cannabinoid therapeutics formulated for transdermal delivery.
