Becton Dickinson Donates $200,000 in Newest Drug-Preparation Technology to School
January 14, 2016UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy students in Chapel Hill and Asheville will train with the newest technology for preparing IV medications thanks to a recent gift of two BD Cato gravimetric scales, valued at $200,000, from Becton Dickinson and Company. June 2, 2015The Eshelman Institute for Innovation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — created by a historic $100 million gift to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in December — has officially launched. The Eshelman Institute aims to inspire a culture of innovation where imagination and creative solutions accelerate change in education, research and health care. Faculty Leader Funds First Global Pharmacy Scholarships
April 30, 2015Dhiren Thakker, PhD, and Kailas Thakker, PhD, have pledged $100,000 to fund the first Global Pharmacy Scholarships at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dhiren Thakker is the Howard Q. Ferguson Distinguished Professor at the School and associate dean for entrepreneurial development and global engagement. Kailas Thakker is president and cofounder of Tergus Pharma, a contract-research company focusing on development of topical drug products. $100 Million: Eshelman Gift to Fund Innovation Is Largest Ever to a Pharmacy School
December 3, 2014The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today announced a $100 million commitment to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy from Fred Eshelman, a 1972 graduate of the School, founder and former CEO of Pharmaceutical Product Development, and founding chairman of Furiex Pharmaceuticals. The School was named for Eshelman in 2008. Kashuba Named McNeill Distinguished Professor
May 6, 2013Internationally known AIDS and HIV researcher Angela Kashuba, PharmD, has been awarded the John A. and Deborah S. McNeill Jr. Distinguished Professorship at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Kashuba studies the role of antiretroviral therapy in preventing the transmission of HIV along with the optimal dosing and drug combinations for treating HIV infection. She works to better understand the interactions between drugs and between drugs and signaling molecules, as well as the roles that gender and ethnicity play in the way drugs are processed by the body. Rhoney Named McFarlane Distinguished Professor
April 26, 2013Denise Rhoney, PharmD, chair of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education, is the first recipient of the Ron and Nancy McFarlane Distinguished Professorship in Pharmacy Practice at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The professorship is a gift of Nancy McFarlane, mayor of Raleigh, and Ron McFarlane. The couple operates MedPro Rx Inc., an accredited specialty infusion pharmacy that provides medications and services to clients with chronic illness.
