Thousands of people experienced science firsthand at the annual UNC Science Expo. The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center hosted the annual Expo on April 1 in partnership with students and faculty from Carolina.    UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy staff set up a booth where people could experience different aspects of pharmacy. Kids went through a geriatric simulation by putting on special glasses and gloves to try to open a prescription bottle and read the medication instructions. UNC-Chapel Hill and East Carolina University establish assured admission program with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the No. 1 pharmacy school in the country, and East Carolina University have established an Early Assurance Program. Start-Up Initiative Tackles State’s Opioid Crisis

New Student Wellness Resource Now Available

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy students will now have access to one-on-one counseling from the school’s inaugural embedded counselor, Ardith Burkes. Researcher’s postdoc work on micronutrients published in Science journal

Aaron Anselmo, Ph.D., is looking for new ways to deliver micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, to people across the world. “Currently a lot of different foods are fortified with micronutrients in the developing world, but some of these fortification approaches don’t address the end use of the product,” he said. “For example, cooking at high temperatures and long times can result in degradation of the fortified micronutrient which then won’t be absorbed by the body.” Anselmo is currently an assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics. Newly promoted associate professor Hathaway published in Nature Biotechnology

Nathaniel Hathaway, Ph.D., a researcher at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, was published in Nature Biotechnology earlier this month for his work creating tools that can control gene expression. Hathaway, who will be promoted to associate professor Dec. 1, focuses on understanding the mechanisms of gene regulation by chromatin while discovering small molecules that change epigenetic pathways.
