School, Western North Carolina community partners receive funding from Dogwood Health Trust to create online educational resource for teens about vaping, substance misuse

In the United States, more than 27 percent of high school students and 10 percent of middle school students use vaping products, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, substance misuse (e.g. alcohol, drugs) is a major concern among teens in the United States. “Vaping and substance use is a major health problem for teens across the country and often there are not resources available for teens. Aliyah Cruz, Pharm. D. candidate class of 2022, is one of this year’s recipients of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Award. Master’s program student receives ASHP Pharmacy Resident Research Grant

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy master’s student Gregory Norsten, Pharm.D., is one of eight national recipients of this year’s American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Pharmacy Resident Research Grants. PharmD candidate Neel Swamy to participate in CDC Student Experiential Program

Pharm.D student Neel Swamy (Class of ’23) has been selected to participate in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Pharmacy Student Experiential Program for the 2022-23 academic year. Immunization training available for pharmacy technicians

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is excited to partner with Haywood Community College to offer The Pharmacy Technicians and Vaccinations: An Advanced Training Program in April. Numerous pharmacy technicians have completed this program and now aide in the vaccination effort across North Carolina. Under the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (US DHHS) PREP Act, qualified pharmacy technicians may administer COVID-19 and other eligible vaccinations to persons 3 and older under pharmacist supervision.  In August 2021, NC state law granted qualified technicians limited vaccination authority under pharmacist supervision once PREP Act legislation is rescinded.
