Faculty receive grant funding for project studying access to childhood vaccines through community pharmacies in rural communities

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation awarded the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy a $250,000 research grant. The grant will help fund the research project entitled, “Evaluating Access to Childhood Vaccines Through Rural Community Pharmacies.”    Through this project, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy researchers will work with pharmacy partners to help ensure children in rural North Carolina communities have access to vaccinations.  “We were seeking forward-thinking, community-centered projects that would explore creative solutions to some of the most pressing public health problems facing diverse and underserved communities across the U.S.,” said NACDS Foundation President Sara Roszak.  … Continued

Students share research findings at poster presentation

Third year Pharm.D. students in the Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy (RASP) pathway presented their research findings to peers, faculty and staff members of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy on April 19.  RASP is a longitudinal, selective pathway within the Doctor of Pharmacy elective curriculum built around a mentored, in-depth, scholarly project. Stephanie Kiser appointed Executive Director of the Rural Pharmacy Health Initiative

The UNC Eshleman School of Pharmacy’s Rural Pharmacy Health Initiative was developed to advance pharmacy practice while building the workforce North Carolina needs to provide high-quality health care for rural and underserved communities. University of Eastern Finland visits UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy campuses

The Office of Global Engagement in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted faculty from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) School of Pharmacy earlier this month. UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received highest residency match rate in the U.S. among pharmacy schools with at least 88 students registered

Pharm.D. students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received the highest American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) PGY1 residency match rate among schools of pharmacy in the U.S. with at least 88 students registered. A family legacy of service

Generational and community impact is what inspired Cassidy Cox, Pharm.D. candidate class of 2025, to pursue her pharmacy education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.   Her grandparents, Hugh Cox, RPh, and Mary Drusilla Cox, RPh, were both community pharmacists in Abington, Massachusetts. They owned and operated Bemis Drug for 40 years before passing it on to Cassidy’s father and uncle. Matt Rivenbark appointed Executive Director of Finance and Facilities Services

Double Tar Heel, Matt Rivenbark ‘00, ‘02 (M.A.), recently stepped into a new position at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. After working as the senior director of finance for the School for seven years, Rivenbark is now the executive director of finance and facilities services.   His journey at Carolina began when he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2000 from what was then the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Take a book, share a book: local seventh grader creates community library for UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

Are you an avid reader or addicted to sharing any new resource you come across? If so, you’re in luck because used textbooks, pharmacy research resources and fun-reads now have a new home at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.   Thanks to Max Bachelder, a seventh grader at Culbreth Middle School and the son of Kristy Ainslie, Ph.D., Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor and chair of the Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics, the School now has a mini library where students, faculty and staff can take and share “big brain books”.  The library, decorated in Carolina Blue, showcases the Old Well, … Continued

Engaging the community through science

Thousands of people experienced science firsthand at the annual UNC Science Expo. The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center hosted the annual Expo on April 1 in partnership with students and faculty from Carolina.    UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy staff set up a booth where people could experience different aspects of pharmacy. Kids went through a geriatric simulation by putting on special glasses and gloves to try to open a prescription bottle and read the medication instructions.
