Honkakoski Delivers Nuclear Receptor Short Course at UNC
January 22, 2018Paavo Honkakoski, Ph.D., professor of the School of Pharmacy and Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland presented a short course on nuclear receptor regulation at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in January. In two-hour sessions held over three days, Honkakoski covered the basics of nuclear receptors, including receptor structure and function, measurement of receptor activation, their importance in human physiology, disease and drug therapy, the development of selective NR modulators, and examples for diseases of the central nervous system. School Identifies Areas for Improvement at Diversity Symposium
December 1, 2017The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted its first symposium addressing the practice of leveraging diversity for innovation. The “Art and Science of Diversity and Inclusion” was held at the Carolina Inn on Friday, Sept. 8. Alumni and current students from underrepresented backgrounds provided their perspectives. The event was organized by the Office of Innovative Leadership and Diversity and the Office of Student and Curricular Affairs on behalf of the School. PharmAlliance Conferences Bring Pharmacy World to Chapel Hill
November 21, 2017The members of PharmAlliance gathered in Chapel Hill Nov. 15 to 19 as the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted researchers and educators from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and University College London in the United Kingdom for a five-day, two-part collaborative summit focusing on research and practice in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences . E(I) Lab Names Winners in Second Annual Innovation Competition
June 26, 2017The E(I) Lab Program, a competition launched by the UNC Eshelman Institute for Innovation that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation among multidisciplinary teams of UNC graduate and professional student, wrapped up its second cohort on April 29. The winning team received a prize of $3,000 for developing a device for generating reproducible skin pricks for allergy testing. The current method of generating skin pricks suffers from too much variation, leading to incorrect diagnosis and the need for further testing. Young Innovators Program Welcomes Second Intern Class
June 15, 2017On June 19, 24 students from 19 North Carolina high schools will begin the second Young Innovators Program led by researchers from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The program, sponsored by the Eshelman Institute for Innovation, offers students a chance to experience mentored, hands-on laboratory research and professional engagement at the earliest stages of their careers. March 3, 2017Robert Califf, M.D., the U.S. commissioner of food and drugs from 2016 to 2017, was at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Monday, Feb. 27, to discuss data sharing and diversity in clinical trials and to host an open forum with faculty and students.
