iNClusive STEM Pitch Summit Highlights Female, Minority Entrepreneurs

Minority and female entrepreneurs gathered at the Rizzo Center on October 11 to participate in the iNClusive STEM Innovation Pitch Summit. The event, co-hosted by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC School of Law, allowed entrepreneurs from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to showcase and pitch their innovations and businesses for the opportunity to receive funding. The event was open to women, African-Americans, Hispanics and American Indians in STEM fields. Pharmacy Students Host Medication Take Back Day

Students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy partnered with Generation Rx to host Medication Take Back Day on October 2. The event, co-hosted by the UNC School of Dentistry and the UNC Hospital Police, collected expired or unused prescription drugs from the Chapel Hill community in order to combat drug abuse. Microbiome Experts Gather for PharmSci 2018 Conference

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted the 12th annual Chapel Hill Pharmaceutical Sciences Conference on June 4, focused on the interface between drug delivery and the microbiome. Over 100 attendees gathered at the William and Ida Friday Center in Chapel Hill for the conference. Speakers included faculty from the School and from UNC’s chemistry, microbiology and biomedical engineering programs, as well as faculty from other universities, including Duke University, N.C. State University, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Colorado Boulder. Over 120 Pharmacy Residents Present Research at REPS Symposium

Pharmacy residents and professionals from across the Southeast gathered at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy for the fifth annual Research in Education and Practice Symposium on May 21 and 22. REPS 2018 included podium presentations from over 120 residents, fellows and postgraduate trainees, as well as three professional development lectures and numerous networking opportunities. PY4 Students Celebrate Post Clerkship Day

PY4 students returned to campus for Post Clerkship Day on May 4 to celebrate the completion of their rotations and prepare for commencement. Fourth Annual Asheville Summit Addresses Population Health

On Saturday, March 10, approximately 150 students, residents and pharmacists from across the Southeast attended the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Fourth Annual Asheville Summit at the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. The Asheville Summit is a one-day conference planned by students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy with the majority of the planning done at the School’s Asheville campus. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 21, at the Rizzo Center. Professor emeritus Hal Kohn, Ph.D., received the School’s Distinguished Service Award, presented each year for distinguished service and support for the School’s service and outreach initiatives and for accomplishments that advance the profession of pharmacy. Lisa T. Grimes, a UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy alumna returned to campus Wednesday, April 18, to share insights from her new book. Grimes, a 1985 graduate of the School, and her coauthor, fellow UNC-Chapel Hill alumna Paula Brown Stafford, M.P.H., discussed their book, “Remember Who You Are: Achieve Success, Create Balance, Experience Fulfillment,” at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Partnership in Patient Care Holds Planning Retreat

Faculty and staff from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC Medical Center Department of Pharmacy held a planning retreat for the Partnership in Patient Care at the Friday Center on Feb. 21. Launched in 2010, the Partnership in Patient Care combines the resources of the School and the pharmacy department to increase the pharmacy services available to patients at UNC Hospitals, the amount of experiential education that pharmacy students receive at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the amount of point-of-care research being conducted. School Hosts Delegation from China FDA

On Jan. 31, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted a delegation from the China Food and Drug Administration. Thirteen members of the China FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation attended a two-hour symposium at where School faculty presented various topics related to drug discovery and development.
