Savage honored with The Ohio State’s Clinical Achievement Award

Even after decades in the field of pharmacy, Scott Savage said he still gets a nervous feeling in the pit of his stomach because he’s doing work he’s passionate about and he wants to get it right. Savage, Pharm.D., MS, felt those same butterflies as he accepted The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Jerry Siegel Clinical Achievement Award on Dec. 8, in Las Vegas. Researcher’s postdoc work on micronutrients published in Science journal

Aaron Anselmo, Ph.D., is looking for new ways to deliver micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, to people across the world. “Currently a lot of different foods are fortified with micronutrients in the developing world, but some of these fortification approaches don’t address the end use of the product,” he said. “For example, cooking at high temperatures and long times can result in degradation of the fortified micronutrient which then won’t be absorbed by the body.” Anselmo is currently an assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics. New NIH proposal aims to advance Alzheimer’s drug discovery research

(Photo courtesy of Stephen Frye) A group of researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are part of a new research proposal to create chemical and biological tools to explore novel molecular targets related to Alzheimer’s disease. The proposal, which was submitted through the NIH National Institute on Aging, aims to create new chemical probes to validate therapeutic targets for Alzheimer’s, which has no known cure, and very few treatments. Wolcott awarded for presentation at Monash Pharmacy Education Symposium

Clinical assistant professor Michael Wolcott, Pharm.D., Ph.D., from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and UNC School of Dentistry, won Best Oral Presentation for Educational Frameworks at the Monash Pharmacy Education Symposium in Prato, Italy. Wolcott works in both the School of Pharmacy’s Division of Practical Advancement and Clinical Education and the School of Dentistry’s Oral and Craniofacial Health Sciences. The Monash symposium is held in Italy every two years in July and features presentations on various topics within pharmacy education.
