PY4 Students Celebrate Post Clerkship Day

PY4 students returned to campus for Post Clerkship Day on May 4 to celebrate the completion of their rotations and prepare for commencement. PY4 President Stephanie Salch presented the School with the Class of 2018 gift, The GROW Fund, which will promote Guidance, Resilience, Open-Mindedness and Wellness among student pharmacists as part of the School’s initiative to foster student, faculty and staff wellness. Ashley Henson McKnight Wins Burrus Family Award for Service

Ashley McKnight is the 2018 recipient of the Samuel B. Burrus Family Award for Community Service, presented to a student who exhibits outstanding and unselfish civic, community or church volunteer service outside the scope of regular pharmacy practice. McKnight studied at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Asheville satellite campus and will graduate from the School in May with highest distinction. She is a Rural Health Scholar, a founding member of the Christian Pharmacists Fellowship at the Asheville campus and has worked as a teaching assistant and Rho Chi tutor at the School. Top Students, Faculty Honored at 2018 Awards Ceremony

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 21, at the Rizzo Center. Professor emeritus Hal Kohn, Ph.D., received the School’s Distinguished Service Award, presented each year for distinguished service and support for the School’s service and outreach initiatives and for accomplishments that advance the profession of pharmacy. Pharm.D. RASP Students Present Research Findings to Peers, Faculty and Alumni

Third-year Doctor of Pharmacy students in the inaugural cohort of the Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy pathway presented their research findings to peer students, faculty and guest alumni as part of the RASP 3 (PHCY 726) course. The poster presentation simulated what students would experience at a professional meeting and served as an opportunity for the students to share their project results and develop their presentation skills. As Hawke Retires, Jarstfer Steps in as Graduate Education Assistant Dean

After serving as the assistant dean for graduate education with distinction since the position was created in 2011, Roy Hawke, Ph.D., is stepping down in conjunction with his decision to retire. Sixth Educational Renaissance Symposium Aims to Keep Pace with Health Care

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its Sixth Annual Educational Renaissance Symposium March 5 at the Carolina Inn. This year’s symposium focused on accelerating the transformation of the School’s doctor of pharmacy curriculum to keep pace with changes in health care. Group to Explore Transforming School’s Graduate Program

Pharmacy Grad Students Prevail in UNC Three Minute Thesis Competition

Katelyn Arnold, a graduate student in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, won first place in this year’s Three Minute Thesis competition hosted by the UNC Graduate School on Nov. 1. Aaron Devanathan, Pharm.D., a graduate student in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, received the People’s Choice Award. Arnold received a prize of $1,000 and will represent the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the 2018 regional Three Minute Thesis competition. Michael Patti Selected as Pharmacy Quality Alliance Scholar

Pharm.D. candidate Michael Patti was selected as a Pharmacy Quality Alliance–CVS Health Foundation Scholar. The program offers an opportunity to present the results of a quality-based project at its 2018 poster session and a scholarship to get there. Patti is being mentored by Stefanie Ferreri, Pharm.D., clinical professor and executive vice chair of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education.
