  2. Data collection to guide benchmarking, data reporting, and decision-making
  3. The course evaluation process to ensure continued quality improvement of teaching and learning

AACP Institutional Research Annual Surveys & Services

The AACP institutional research department gathers, analyzes and summarizes data related to the colleges and schools of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy uses the AACP surveys to assess trends and make decisions with regard to the School’s pharmaceutical education.

Student evaluation of course and instructor effectiveness is one component of an overall course and instructor assessment process. The course evaluations serve to:

  • provide students an opportunity to share feedback on the effectiveness of the course and the instructors who teach in a course;
  • provide instructors with feedback regarding student-perceived effectiveness of the course as well as their teaching methodologies and styles;
  • provide the School, specifically the Professional Program Curriculum and Assessment Committee and the Graduate Education Committee, with data to consider in course and curricular quality improvement efforts; and,
  • provide the School’s leadership, including Division Chairs and the Executive Committee, with information regarding student-reported effectiveness and impact of faculty teaching efforts.

Instrument for Student Evaluation of Course and Instructor Effectiveness

Instrument is updated as needed with input and endorsement of the School’s curriculum and assessment committees.

Software: Explorance Blue

The School uses an online course evaluation system, Explorance Blue, to gather feedback on courses and instructors. This system is contracted and used in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Course directors, instructors, and students can access course evaluations and course evaluation reports by visiting https://blueeval.unc.edu/blue/.

Student Course Evaluation Summary Reports

The Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment assumes responsibility, on behalf of the School, for facilitating the course evaluation process for all required and elective course offerings in the School at both the professional and graduate levels.

The Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment oversees the School’s Faculty Activity Reporting process, which is part of the School’s Annual Faculty Merit and Impact Review Process. All full-time faculty members are asked to complete an Annual Faculty Activity Report and Career Planning document (see first download link below). This information is used by department chairs in the faculty member’s annual review. Also, throughout the year, data collected from the Annual Faculty Activity Report is used to guide the faculty annual review process, provide access to data for various reporting needs and contribute to the School’s Annual Report, both at the level of the School and of each division.

Our Process

In 2011-2012 the School standardized both the documentation and the process for conducting annual faculty reviews for the first time. Based on feedback from faculty, division chairs, and other School leadership, both the documentation and process were revised in 2012-2013. Faculty and chairs now work through Infoporte, a Web portal developed at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy that gives users personalized access to the tools and information they need to do their jobs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
