Pharm.D. students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received the second highest American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) PGY1 residency match rate among schools of pharmacy in the U.S.
The match happens annually to help Pharm.D. students secure positions in residency programs of their choice, and to help the programs get the applicants of their choice.
“This is a huge accomplishment for many of our students, and we are excited for them to advance medicine for life in residency programs across the country,” said Angela Kashuba, Dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. “All of our students are making our School proud as they pursue employment prospects, postdoctoral fellowships and residency opportunities, and become the next generation of health care leaders. I know they will take ‘The Eshelman Way’ with them as they continue to serve patients and provide healthier lives for all.”
Following phase II of the match, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has a 91% match rate of those who registered to be matched – that is the second highest PGY1 match rate among pharmacy schools. For PGY2 students, the School had the highest early commit rate with 88% matching.
Following the first round of the match process in March, 77% of students who registered from the School matched with a residency program for PGY1 according to statistics from the ASHP (this includes students who registered but didn’t participate in the match).
