UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy students captured a first-place victory in this year’s Value of Industry Pharmacists Case Competition.

The Value of Industry Pharmacists (VIP) Case Competition is an annual national competition hosted by the Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO) with more than 70 competing chapters across the country. Throughout the six-month active period of the case, more than 30 student pharmacists from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy worked within four functional area teams to bring a theoretical drug through the drug development process from preclinical development to post-market surveillance.

“This is only the third year the UNC Chapter of IPhO has existed and it has already risen to national prominence. This is the result of strong leadership and the passion of our students. I am extremely proud to be associated with this group of truly outstanding students,” said Michael Jay, Ph.D., advisor of the UNC Chapter of IPhO.

The IPhO VIP Case Competition enables students to delve into multiple disciplines within the pharmaceutical industry as they develop their hypothetical drug, including, but not limited to: Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial Functions. Each phase of the drug’s development lifecycle presents a unique challenge that encourages students to think strategically and apply both their clinical and pharmaceutical industry knowledge.
