carla_whiteCarla White, Associate Dean of Organizational Diversity and Inclusion at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, has been named one of the Triangle Business Journal’s 2020 Leaders in Diversity awardees.

Now in its eighth year, the TBJ said its Leaders in Diversity Awards program is “designed to recognize the accomplishments of Triangle businesses, individuals and nonprofits as they come together to weave a diverse foundational fabric into the heart of the local community.”

This year’s class of awardees consists of 22 winners, comprised of 14 individuals and eight companies. Winners are selected based on their demonstration of respect for inclusivity and advocacy for underrepresented groups. This year’s class represents industries including commercial real estate, education and finance, among other professional fields.

“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this award. It recognizes the commitment of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to invest in diversity, equity and inclusion to make better decisions, create better science and provide healthcare at the level needed,” White said.

White joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 1997 and was director of Pharmaceutical Care Labs in 2004. She has since held the leadership roles of Director of Innovative Leadership and Diversity, Interim Regional Associate Dean of the School’s former Elizabeth City campus, and Assistant Dean of Innovative Leadership and Diversity.

In her most recent role, White pushes the School of Pharmacy to be a diverse and inclusive community of people to accelerate new thinking and ideas in education, research and practice that have a positive impact on human health worldwide.

In the TBJ’s announcement of awardees, Publisher Jason Christie said, “This year’s group of winners are at the front and center of changing their organization’s vision, values and principles – all along keeping equality in mind. We are glad to have created a forum to celebrate the achievements of these individuals and corporations.”

The Journal will recognize awardees at a virtual celebration event on Oct. 6.
