The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is thrilled to announce that Delesha Carpenter, Ph.D., M.S.P.H.,  will become the new Vice Chair for the Asheville campus for the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (DPOP) effective December 1, 2019. This position was created to help expand the division’s and school’s work at the UNC Health Sciences at Mountain Area Health Education campus.

Carpenter joined DPOP in 2010 as a postdoctoral research fellow.  In 2011, she became a research assistant professor and in 2013 she was appointed an assistant professor on the tenure track based on the Asheville campus.  In 2019, she was promoted to associate professor with tenure.

When Carpenter relocated to the Asheville campus she was the first tenure track DPOP faculty member working on the Asheville campus. She works closely with the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) and other regional community partners.

Carpenter is a highly productive faculty member who has published nearly 100 articles and led multiple grants as principal investigator. In her new role, she will work closely with the DPOP chair and the Asheville campus’ regional associate dean, Mollie Scott, to help expand the School’s research portfolio in Asheville and explore the possibility of creating graduate programs in Asheville. The School is excited that Carpenter is taking on this new leadership role to help advance the School’s mission in Western North Carolina.
