mike-jay-lab_2011-08My research group consists of:

  • Dr. Xiuling Lu, a biochemical engineer who was a postdoctoral fellow in my lab at the University of Kentucky for two years before moving to UNC where she is currently appointed as a Research Assistant Professor.  She is the recipient of a prestigious fellowship from the Society of Nuclear Medicine for her work on dual imaging-therapeutic nanovectors.
  • Dr. Matthew Sadgrove, a neuroscientist who recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke.  He brings expertise in animal surgical techniques and animal model development.
  • Dr. Jin-Ki Kim, a pharmaceutical scientist who has held positions in Korea as well as at the University of Mississippi.  He has worked on polymer-based and nanoparticle drug delivery systems.
  • Dr. Anthony Di Pasqua, a bioinorganic chemist who has completed a postdoctoral training program in tumor biology at Georgetown University.  He has conducted research on platinum anticancer agents as well as nanomaterials for drug delivery.
  • Dr. Marina Dickens, an inorganic-chelation chemist who recently earned a PhD at Duke. She was the recipient of several fellowships at Duke where she worked on pro-chelators for prevention of oxidative stress.
  • Dr. Erik Pacyniak, a toxicologist who recently earned a Ph.D. at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  He brings expertise animal experimentation and in the mechanisms of drug and chemical disposition.
  • Dr Jun Han, an engineer who is applying his expertise in the use of acoustical engineering toward ultrasound-enhanced drug delivery and sonoporation.
  • Dr. Yu-Tsai Yang, a pharmaceutical scientist who received a PhD from Taipei Medical University and who is providing expertise in formulation development.
  • Mr. Katsuhiko (‘K’) Sueda, a third-year graduate student who is currently working at GlaxoSmithKline. K earned an M.S. in pharmaceutical engineering and brings extensive experience in formulation and product development.
  • Mr. Yong Zhang, a third-year graduate student who earned an M.S. in organic chemistry and worked at GlaxoSmithKline for five years prior to starting his graduate studies.  He recently completed an industrial internship at MedImmune in Rockville, MD.  Yong is also the Chair of the UNC Graduate AAPS Chapter.
  • Mr. James Huckle, a second-year graduate student who earned an MPharm Honours Degree from the University of Bath in England.

Others

  • I continue to direct the thesis of a graduate student at the University of Kentucky, Ms. Melissa Howard, where she holds an NSF IGERT Fellowship.
  • I am mentoring Ms. Catheleeya (‘Tong’) Mekjaruskul, a visiting student from Khon Kaen University in Thailand.
