Research Interests

Dr. Roth's research focuses on providing individualized medication assessment and planning to medically complex older adults and evaluating the impact of such an intervention on health outcomes. Specifically, she is investigating the effectiveness of a medication therapy management program embedded within a physician-based, primary care outpatient practice in reducing medication-related problems and acute health services utilization in medically complex older adults. Her research goals are to conduct a randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention compared to usual outpatient medical care in reducing acute health services utilization, medication-related problems, and nonadherence in older adults. As part of this work, her research team seeks to elucidate the role of the clinical pharmacist as an integral member of the patient-centered medical home team and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of this intervention.
