Dr. Roth is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She also serves as Director, Office of Assessment at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Roth has served as co-investigator on numerous aging research projects, with particular attention to optimizing medication use in older adults with chronic diseases.  She is the principal investigator on a National Institute on Aging Research and Career Development Award (NIH K23) to evaluate the quality of medication use in older adults and develop and test the effectiveness of a medication management program within a primary care outpatient practice in reducing medication-related problems and acute health services utilization in older adults.

Prior to embarking on a research career, Dr. Roth practiced as a clinical pharmacist for over 10 years, providing patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.  Currently, Dr. Roth co-coordinates a leadership development elective for professional students.  In addition, she provides mentoring and guidance to several students interested in a careers in geriatric pharmacy practice, ambulatory care pharmacy practice, and health services research. She serves as a research advisor and mentor for the UNC PGY2 specialty resident in Geriatrics and serves as a research advisor and mentor to graduate students in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Dr. Roth received her PharmD and completed a clinical pharmacy residency at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and completed a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research at Duke University School of Medicine.

She was honored in 2006 with the Gordon H. DeFriese Career Development in Aging Research Award from the Institute on Aging at the University of North Carolina and in 2007 with the Junior Faculty Development award from the UNC Provost's Office. In 2008, she completed a three-year elected term as Secretary of the Board of Regents of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and is a fellow of ACCP. She currently serves as Treasurer on the Research Institute Board of Trustees of ACCP and serves as a member of the Pharmacy Workgroup for AHRQ's Effective Healthcare Program. She is a member of Academy Health and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
