Hamner-UNC Institute for Drug Safety Sciences
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC School of Medicine have formed a partnership with the Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences to establish the Center for Drug Safety Sciences based in Research Triangle Park. The center is led by Paul Watkins, MD, one of the world’s leading experts in drug-induced liver injury and the Verne S. Caviness Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Professor of Experimental Therapeutics at UNC. LEARN MORE
Pharsight Phoenix Center of Excellence
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is one of five Phoenix Centers of Excellence. The Phoenix Centers of Excellence Program is a collaboration with Pharsight to enhance research and training in pharmacometrics at several elite academic centers. The Centers of Excellence will collaborate with Pharsight to promote excellence in pharmacometrics through topical lectures and webinars on the application of model-based approaches to improve drug development knowledge and decision making. Drug Development Fellowship
The Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics offers several two-year, industry-sponsored postdoctoral fellowships, including opportunities in clinical research and drug development (GSK, PPD, United Therapeutics, King Pharmaceuticals), as well as fellowship programs in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (GSK, Quintiles). Academic fellowships in HIV, oncology, and heart failure are also available.
Fellows in industry-sponsored programs spend their first year at UNC working with leading research faculty and the second year working with research scientists at the sponsor’s facilities. Academic fellows spend their entire programs at UNC. Fellowships include training in protocol and grant writing, scientific writing and publications, and presentation skills. Fellows will take coursework as appropriate in study design, biostatistics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, and other relevant topics.
