PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Managed Care Emphasis
The PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Managed Care Emphasis provides the opportunity to work at a patient-centered medical home as one of the pharmacists on an innovative, collaborative care team with medical providers, nurse case managers, and social workers. Residents will receive a breadth of patient-care experience in both inpatient and ambulatory settings under the tutelage of preceptors who are residency trained or have more than fifteen years of experience.
Upon completing the program, residents will acquire the skills, confidence, and experience necessary to advance patient-care services in ambulatory patient-care settings. Residents will also gain the knowledge and experience needed to understand core managed-care concepts as they relate to accountable-care models and pharmacy’s role within an evolving health-care system.
The residency includes the following core experiences (click each for details):
- Patient care
- Drug policy
- Administration/managed care

This residency is offered jointly through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and AccessCare, a network of Community Care of North Carolina, which serves as the managed-care program for NC Medicaid.
