Debra Pruss is the clinical coordinator at the Kerr Health Care Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Providing clinical pharmacy services and education to patients within the community has been her primary goal since joining the Kerr Drug team in 2006. These services consist of disease-state assessment and monitoring, as well as medication management and education. Pruss has a passion for providing diabetes care and teaches extensive American Diabetes Association education classes in the community pharmacy. She is also a clinical instructor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where she precepts during pharmacy students’ community experiential rotations.

Pruss received her doctor of pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in May 2006. Upon graduation, she completed a community-pharmacy residency with UNC and Kerr Drug in Zebulon, North Carolina. She was awarded an incentive grant in 2007 from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation for her research in blood glucose meters and Medicare prescription requirements. She presented her research findings nationally, and they were also published in the April 2007 edition of JAPhA.

Pruss was honored in 2008 as a recipient of Pharmacy Today’s One-to-One Patient Counseling Recognition Program for her dedication to patient care. She was named the UNC Wake AHEC Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year in an Outpatient Setting in 2009. Pruss is actively involved in the American Pharmacists Association, North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
