Pharmacokinetic/ Pharmacodynamic Fellowships
The School of Pharmacy, in cooperation with Quintiles and GlaxoSmithKline, sponsors two-year fellowships in clinical pharmacokinetics (PK)/pharmacodynamics (PD). Ideal candidates will have obtained a PharmD, PhD, or MD.
The fellowship provides:
- Knowledge and experience in PK and PK/PD study design and related clinical drug research
- Experience in PK/PD data analysis and simulation
- Expertise in the proper conduct of clinical drug trials
- Exposure to ethical, legal and regulatory issues in research involving investigational and marketed drugs
Fellows will develop expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Application of PK/PD principles
- Design, implementation, and analysis of PK and PD studies in healthy subjects
- Patient populations, or relevant in vitro/pre-clinical models
- PK and PD modeling and simulation software (e.g., WinNonlin, NONMEM)
- Laboratory methods to evaluate clinical drug disposition problems
- Biostatistical analysis
Each fellow will participate in clinical pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, transport, and/or metabolism studies with faculty at the School and with members of the Clinical Pharmacology group at Quintiles or with the Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Modeling and Simulation group at GlaxoSmithKline. The fellow will design, initiate, conduct and analyze research project(s) as part of the learning experience.
Fellows may participate in selected course work in:
- Advanced pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
- Clinical research methods
- Clinical study design
- Biostatistics
- Data management
- Advanced therapeutics
- Drug metabolism
- Molecular biology
