The talk is part of the LEADership Academy presented by the School's Office of Recruitment Development and Diversity Initiatives. The LEADership Academy, an extension of the LEAD Program, offers prospective pharmacy students an intensive mentoring and preparatory experience once a month. Participants get an opportunity to network and develop strong professional relationships with faculty and students from the School.

Steeb received his BS in chemistry and biology from the University of Miami. Over the past two years, he has been involved in several initiatives at the School, including the creation of the PharmD/MBA dual degree program and the reactivation of Phi Delta Chi, a professional pharmaceutical fraternity. Steeb currently serves as the national president-elect of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists and chair of the APhA-ASP Awards Standing Committee. He was the 2010 APhA Carl Emswiller Summer Intern in Association Management and is a member of Phi Lambda Sigma, Rho Chi, and Phi Delta Chi.

The presentation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Kerr Hall, room 1001.

Wang is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a member of the Institute of Human Virology. His presentation, titled "Chemoenzymatic Synthesis and Functional Studies of Glycoproteins," will be held in Chapman Hall, room 125, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Schoenfisch is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His presentation, titled "Macromolecular Nitric Oxide Release Scaffolds: Design and Pharmacological Potential," will be held 116 Beard Hall.

Bankaitis is a professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the UNC School of Medicine. His presentation is titled "Instructive Regulation of Phosphoinositide Signaling by Phosphatidylinositol Transfer Proteins and Prospects for Chemical Biology."

Veley is the INVISTA Professor for the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State. His presentation, titled "Directed Co-Assembly of Live Cells and Colloidal Particles into Biocomposites with Engineered Structure and Functionality," will be held 116 Beard Hall.

Major is an assistant professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the UNC School of Medicine. His presentation is titled "Using Protein-Protein Interaction Networks to Understand Signal Transduction in Human Disease."

The seminar will be held in the Howard Q. and Mescal S. Ferguson Auditorium (Kerr Hall, room 2001) from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Ashby is a Bowman and Gordon Gray Distinguished Term Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her presentation, titled "Design, Synthesis and Application of Polyester-Based Biomaterials," will be held 116 Beard Hall.

The poster presentations will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the platform presentations from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

All students in the Clinical Scholars Program and the Honors Program are required to participate and present their work, and all students are encouraged to apply for both platform and poster presentations. The top ten submitted abstracts will be presented in platform format, while others will be presented as posters.

Abstracts must be submitted by January 16, and students chosen for platform presentations will be notified by February 3.
