Photos: Student Senate Live Auction and Hair Donation

The annual event raised, among other things, more than $1,700 for the Kristen Burke Award and donated 100 inches of hair for Children with Hairloss.

The Student Senate at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its annual live auction on February 17 to raise money for student organizations at the School. This year's event also included a fundraising effort for the Kristen Burke Award, a scholarship established in honor of the former PharmD student who passed away on October 8, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. To help raise money for the scholarship, twelve people offered to donate their hair to Children with Hairloss if they could raise $1,000 by the end of the live auction. The campaign brought in $1,743 for the Kristen Burke Award and donated about 100 inches of hair, with Dean Bob Blouin manning the shears.

The individuals who donated their hair were: students Elizabeth Alford, Maya Wai, Allison Presnell, Leah Edenfield, Stephanie Craycroft, Maria Bagdasarian, Stephanie Somers, Emily Peedin, Jennifer Petschauer and Janet Lim; clinical associate professor Jo Ellen Rodgers, PharmD; and Amy Charney from Endurance Magazine.

Students enrolled in the UNC-Chapel Hill Doctor of Pharmacy Partnership program at Elizabeth City State University officially moved into their new academic home as a new $28 million Pharmacy Complex at the ECSU campus was unveiled on September 27, 2010. The 52,500-square-foot building, whose architecture was inspired by the idea of an apothecary chest, overlooks an artificial pond and contains classrooms and labs organized around a two-story atrium. The first floor contains general science labs, while the second floor houses the IV simulation lab, the compounding lab, a library, and community outreach facilities such as the drug information center. The third floor features three research labs for biochemistry, molecular biology, and medicinal chemistry. Other classrooms, meeting rooms, and offices are distributed throughout the building to create a more collaborative environment for students, faculty, and staff. The complex also hosts the university's Drug Information Center.
