Shannon Carson, MD
Shannon Carson, MD, is associate professor of medicine and associate program director of the Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Fellowship Program at the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Carson has published extensively on outcomes and economic issues associated with the field of respiratory failure and prolonged mechanical ventilation. He has also conducted comparative-effectiveness studies relating to sedation regimens and delirium interventions for mechanically ventilated patients. Dr. Carson received his BS in biochemistry from the North Carolina State University and his MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the UNC faculty, he was an assistant professor of clinical medicine and associate director of the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at the University of Chicago.
