M. Alan Brookhart, PhD
M. Alan Brookhart, PhD, is an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Brookhart earned his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkley. Prior to coming to UNC, Dr. Brookhart was an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a biostatistician in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His research focuses on the development and application of epidemiological methods for observational studies of medications using large health-care databases. He is particularly interested in two related areas: 1) understanding the determinants of physician prescribing and patient adherence, and 2) detecting and controlling confounding bias in comparative effectiveness studies of medications.
