Clinical Assistant Professor David Steeb, Pharm.D. , was recently elected chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Global Pharmacy Education Special Interest Group. Steeb is director of global engagement and clinical assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education.

Steeb said the mission of the SIG is to develop, facilitate, advance and promote quality global health pharmacy education. In executing the mission, Steeb said, the SIG seeks to provide opportunities for SIG members to network and connect with each other around shared interests within global pharmacy education, including research projects, webinars and conference presentations among others.

Steeb said he decided to run for chair of the group after encouragement form a colleague. He’s been a member since 2013.

“I have seen firsthand what a difference global pharmacy education can make for students and practitioners and saw the position as an opportunity to help expand the ways members can become engaged,” Steeb said.

Steeb outlined three goals for his tenure. He wants to build and establish collaborative efforts among pharmacy and other organizations that have a global health and education focus, develop global pharmacy education resources based on best practices that can be adapted and implemented in order to further institutional and individual specific interests and increase member engagement through networking, resource development and scholarship.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to work with so many great leaders throughout the country who are making their mark on global pharmacy education,” Steeb said. “We are collectively working together to advance the profession of pharmacy on a global scale.”
