Mollie Ashe Scott, Pharm.D., clinical associate professor and regional associate dean of the School’s Asheville satellite campus, was elected to chair the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners. She will serve as chair-elect for the upcoming year and will be installed as chair at the summer meeting in 2018.

Scott recently completed a three-year term as director at large for the section’s executive committee. She said she thoroughly enjoyed her time in this position and was inspired by the important role the ASHP and the section are playing in advancing ambulatory care pharmacy practice.

As chair-elect, Scott will work with other executive committee members to oversee the work of the section advisory groups. As chair, she’ll represent ambulatory care pharmacists at the ASHP House of Delegates, ASHP Policy Week and other events.

Ambulatory care pharmacists practice with an emphasis on addressing medication needs, developing sustained partnerships with patients and practicing in the context of family and community, according to the American Pharmacists Association. There are ambulatory care pharmacists in a variety of practice settings.

Scott developed the Ambulatory Care Toolkit for ASHP members and said she plans to build on that during her tenure as chair. Her main goal is to continue ensuring that all patients have access to a pharmacist who is part of the ambulatory-care health-care team.

“I have observed firsthand the important role that state organizations can play in advocating for legislative change and advancing practice,” Scott said. “Collaboration with our state affiliates to ensure that health systems and pharmacists have the tools that they need to start and expand ambulatory care services is something that is important to me.”

Scott said she would like to work to identify what support state affiliates need from ASHP in order to successfully expand ambulatory care practice models and providing specific deliverables to meet those needs.
