Our laboratory is interested in the discovery and exploitation of new strategies for controlling drug-resistant microorganisms. In one project area, we are investigating the initiation of DNA repair in bacteria as a functional target for controlling bacterial survival in the absence of traditional antibiotics. In a second project area, we are developing methods to perform high-throughput screening of billions of protein variants in order to investigate the inhibition of proteases found in microbial human pathogens such as HIV, hepatitis C virus, and a range of bacteria.
