This course consists of a two-week hands-on experience. The course will include lectures, demonstrations and hands-on laboratory exercises. Some parts of the course will be group projects. These projects will be worked during afternoon and evening sessions.
Lecture: General Principles of animal handling, principles of small-animal surgery
Laboratory: Animal facility tours; procedures for handling rats and mice
Lecture: Whole-animal models of drug disposition (rat and mouse)
Laboratory: Methods of anesthesia; determination of anesthetic depth; euthanasia; blood/tissue collection, gavage administration; tail vein injection;
Lecture: Pharmacologic data analysis
Laboratory: Large animal disection (pig)
Lecture: Pharmacokinetic study design
Laboratory: Medium animal handling (dogs and rabbits)
