Stefanie Ferreri, Pharm.D., executive vice chair of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education, has been promoted to the rank of clinical professor.
Ferreri joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in 2001 and was promoted to clinical associate professor in 2009. She was named executive vice chair of PACE in 2012. Ferreri served as director of the School’s PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program from 2004 to 2015 and currently directs the Community Pharmacy Research Fellowship and the Independent Pharmacy Ownership Residency.
Her main research interests are advancing clinical practice and transforming practice models in the community pharmacy setting. Through her research, she said she hopes to change the way outpatient pharmacy practice is portrayed and delivered to the population of the United States and beyond. Ferreri has practiced extensively as a clinical pharmacist, including an 11-year stint with Kerr Drug.
Currently, she is principal investigator on a $1 million grant, “Implementing an Integrative Falls Prevention Program for High-Risk Patients in Community Pharmacies,” from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is co-investigator on a $15.1 million grant with Community Care of North Carolina, “Optimizing the Medical Neighborhood: Transforming Care Coordination through the North Carolina Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network.”
On the national level, Ferreri is active with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association. Within APhA, she served as a delegate in the House of Delegates for the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management and chaired the clinical pharmacotherapeutic section of APPM. She has also been a judge and reviewer for APPM contributed papers for the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition.
On the state level, Ferreri is president-elect of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. This is her second elected appointment with NCAP. She served as a member-at-large board member and was a voting member of the executive committee for policies and procedures affecting the organization. In the School, she currently serves on the nominations committee, faculty advisory operations committee, and Research in Education and Practice Symposium committee. She serves as a media representative for the School, making 14 media appearances since 2009.
Ferreri received a B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Campbell University. She completed a PGY1 community pharmacy residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists through Campbell University and Ward Drug Co. of Nashville, North Carolina.
