The NMR Facility in the School of Pharmacy serves the needs of research groups from across the campus of the University of North Carolina. The facility houses a Varian Gemini 300 and an Inova 500. The interests of users are varied, and accordingly the laboratory has multiple capabilities: some researchers work with small molecules and natural products, while others study macromolecular structure and dynamics. This is reflected in the instrumentation and policies of the facility. The 300 MHz spectrometer is used for routine 1H or 13C one-dimensional experiments on a walk-up basis, or for simple two-dimensional experiments. The 500 MHz instrument is used for other nuclei (e.g. 31P or 19F), or for more complicated multi-dimensional, multi-nuclear experiments. It also has a variety of probes, making it truly quite versatile. This is a state-of-the-art instrument, with waveform generators on all four channels, and triple-axis gradients. Interested individuals should contact either the Manager of the facility, Dr. Karl M. Koshlap (919-962-0060) or the Director, Prof. Andrew L. Lee (919-966-7821).
