Biography:
Simon Wang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products, Eshelman School of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). He had extensive experience in computer-aided drug design and cheminformatics. Dr. Wang received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a M.S. degree in Pharmacology from Peking Union Medical College, and a Ph.D. degree in Computational Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry and Quantum Theory Project at the University of Florida. Prior to his joining the UNC-CH as a junior faculty in late 2005, Dr. Wang had two years of postdoctoral training with Dr. Harel Weinstein at Cornell University.
Research Interests:
1. Development of novel methodologies for computational drug discovery and cheminformatics
2. Application of virtual screening and rational design to develop small molecule probes and therapeutics to treat human mental disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disease
3. Explore the complex receptor binding profiles of drug molecules in the context of whole receptor genome
