Biography:
Pamela U. Joyner was appointed associate dean for professional education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 1998 and provides leadership for the Office of Professional Education. This office has four subdivisions: the Office of Student Services, Office of Curriculum and Assessment, Office of Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives, and the UNC/ECSU Doctor of Pharmacy Partnership Program. The Office of Professional Education serves students by supporting personal and academic growth while maintaining records of students’ accomplishments. The partnership program was established in fall 2005 and has a primary focus to increase pharmacy manpower in northeastern North Carolina. Students on the Elizabeth City campus receive the majority of their core instruction and electives through videoteleconferencing.
From 1985 to 1996, Dr. Joyner worked at the Wake Area Health Education Center at Wake Medical Center as the director of pharmacy education. In February 1996, Dr. Joyner joined the School as the director of external professional programs. She implemented the School’s off-campus External Doctor of Pharmacy Program that used a combination of taped lectures and discussion sessions by videoteleconference.
Dr. Joyner has been actively involved in state and national professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Society of Heath-System Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. She was recognized as a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 1991 and was selected to participate in the 2007-2008 AACP Academic Leadership Fellows Program.
