Bruce R. Canaday is a clinical professor and vice chair in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Education at the UNC School of Pharmacy. He is director of the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the Coastal Area Health Education Center in Wilmington, NC, where he teaches and precepts undergraduate students; coordinates, conducts, and presents continuing education programs; and maintains a clinical practice in association with the Internal Medicine Teaching Service of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. His major interest area is pain management.
He received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Purdue University and his PharmD from the University of Tennessee. He is a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and served as president and chair of the board in 1998-1999. He also served three terms as chairman of the ASHP House of Delegates and served on the Board of Directors in that capacity. He is a fellow of the American Pharmaceutical Association through the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management and served as the Chairman of the Academy's Clinical /Pharmacotherapy Section. He served on the APhA Board of Trustees 2002-2005 and as APhA President in 2006-2007..
