DPPEE includes thirty-four salaried faculty and six staff members. This number includes: - Twelve salaried faculty on campus
- Thirteen
fully-funded AHEC faculty positions off-campus
- Twenty cofunded
faculty positions.
Our faculty also includes more than 500 preceptors,
more than 100 of whom have adjunct faculty appointments at the School
of Pharmacy. The division operates three programs:
- The Postgraduate/Continuing Education Program:
The PGCE sponsors and cosponsors many types of programs. It offers
regional, statewide, and a limited number of national and international
seminars, workshops, certificate programs, and residency programs to
advance pharmaceutical care knowledge and skills. The PGCE Program
predominantly partners with the nine regional Area Health Education
Centers and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists to assist the
state’s pharmacists in advancing their practices.
- The Professional Experience Program:
The PEP is a system of practice experiences that models the delivery of
pharmaceutical care. The program provides PharmD students with a
structured, supervised program to participate in the practice of
pharmacy. More than 500 pharmacy preceptors in 275 sites across North
Carolina serve students through a network of Area Health Education
Centers, giving pharmacy students a unique venue in which to practice
their skills. In addition, more than 25 AHEC- and community-based
pharmacy faculty support the Professional Experience Program along with
selected pharmacists who have been recognized by the School as
preceptors.
- The Pharmaceutical Care Lab:
Also known as the Skills Lab, the PCL is an award-winning element of
the UNC teaching philosophy. Students begin Skills Lab during their
first week at the School, and it continues on a weekly basis until the
spring of their third year. The PCL is a fundamental building block in
realizing the mission of the DPPEE because it provides an opportunity
for students to practice and develop general and professional abilities
in a controlled environment.
