The Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products focuses on discovering new therapeutic agents and targets. Thousands of compounds researched by the UNC School of Pharmacy have the potential for therapeutic applications impacting many disease targets, such as enzymes, specific drug receptors, and even the genome.

Lee Receives NIH Grant for Collaboration with Singleton

Andrew Lee, PhD, an associate professor at the UNC School of Pharmacy, has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health for a collaboration with fellow School faculty Scott Singleton, PhD, to study at how protein motions affect function and inhibition in the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase.

Three Faculty Members Receive Awards

Qisheng Zhang, PhD an assistant professor in MCNP, is one of three junior faculty members at the UNC School of Pharmacy to receive awards from the University. Zhang, PhD, received a $7,500 Junior Faculty Development Award from the Committee on Faculty Research and Study Leaves.

Former GSK Exec Stephen Frye to Lead UNC Drug Discovery Center

Stephen Frye, PhD, former worldwide head of discovery medicinal chemistry at GlaxoSmithKline, will lead the new Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
