Jessica Adams, PharmD

Fellowship: Academic; HIV Clinical Pharmacology
Year: Second
Preceptor: Angela Kashuba
Location: 3315 Kerr Hall

Dr. Adams is involved in a number of clinical research studies, including an evaluation of the pharmacokinetics of first line antiretroviral therapies in the aging HIV positive population, an evaluation of the pharmacokinetics of raltegravir in pregnancy, and multiple studies dealing with the pharmacokinetics and pharmacokinetics of antiretrovirals for use in HIV prevention and sterilization of the female genital tract.

Richa Dua, PharmD

Fellowship: Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics (Quintiles)
Year: First
Preceptors: Mary Paine/Jo Ellen Rodgers
Location: 2308 Kerr Hall

Richa's research projects include drug metabolism, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling, and drug - xenobiotic interactions. Her current research is focused on defining the contribution of N-glucoronidation pathway in the metabolism of midazolam. She is also engaged in a drug interaction study involving milk thistle which will aid in defining the clinical impact of milk thistle on various drug therapies and their metabolism pathways.

Parag Kumar, PharmD

Fellowship: Drug Development/Clinical Research (United Therapeutics)
Year: First
Preceptors: Chris Walko/Bill Zamboni
Location: 3315 Kerr Hall

Parag’s research interests include the pharmacology of chemotherapeutic drugs and the design of Phase I/II clinical trials.  His current research is studying the pharmacokinetics of oral and IV clofarabine (Clorar) and the pharmcokinetics/pharmacodynamics of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (Doxil), particularly Doxil’s clearance by the reticuloendothelial system.

Christina Mayer, PharmD

Fellowship: Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics (GSK)
Year: First
Preceptors: Roy Hawke/Kim Brouwer
Location: 3315 Kerr Hall

Christina's current interests and activities include characterizing the PK/PD behavior of xenobiotics to improve the clinical utilization of drugs, effectively using modeling and simulation tools to predict drug behavior and guide drug development, and providing clinicians with meaningful interpretation of PK/PD and drug interaction information in order to improve patient care. Christina is currently engaged in a research study investigating the PK/PD interaction between two herbal products, milk thistle and green tea extract, in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. In addition to PK/PD, Christina's other clinical and scientific interests include neurology, infectious diseases, and comparative biology, with particular focus on comparative anatomy, genetics, and pharmacology.

Jai Patel, PharmD

Fellowship: Academic Oncology Fellow
Year: First
Preceptors: Chris Walko/Howard Mcleod
Location: 1022B Genetic Medicine Building

Jai’s research interests include oncology and the study of pharmacogenetics. He plans to analyze the pharmacogenetic pathways of anticancer drugs and the response on clinical outcomes in order to gain assets that will aid in the translation of pharmacogenetic research to clinical practice.

Mario Sampson, PharmD

Fellowship: Clinical Pharmacology
Year: First
Preceptor: Kim Brouwer
Location: 2308 Kerr Hall

Mario is involved in a clinical PK/PD study investigating a potential CYP4F2-mediated drug-drug interaction between lovastatin and warfarin. In addition, he is collaborating with investigators at the Duke Clinical Research Institute on several pediatric PK/PD studies with the goal of generating the data required to determine the optimal dosage of several agents commonly used in pediatric populations.
