Division Fast Facts
DPET is a rapidly growing division focused on collaborative clinical and translational research projects, with a special emphasis on developing world-class programs in pharmacogenomics, quantitative pharmacology, and experimental therapeutics. Current research centers around the following therapeutic areas: oncology, cardiovascular, HIV, and gastroenterology/hepatology.
Our members include:
- Twenty-five faculty members
- Twenty-two graduate students
- Sixteen clinical fellows
- Six postdoctoral research scientists
The Division houses six Centers and Programs, including:
- The Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy (IPIT)
- Center for AIDS Research Clinical Pharmacology and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory
- The Good Laboratory Practice Analytical Facility
- The UNC Cellular Metabolism and Transport-Core
The Division’s graduate program focuses on developing translational research skills that facilitate evaluation of the mechanisms of disease processes and drug therapy. Students utilize preclinical models and conduct patient-oriented research to evaluate mechanisms of disposition, efficacy, and toxicity of therapeutic agents.
Postgraduate research opportunities are provided through a variety of fellowship programs, including:
- Academic:
- Heart Failure Pharmacotherapy
- HIV Pharmacology
- Oncology
- Industry sponsored fellowships:
- Clinical Research and Drug Development
- Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Research
