Dr. Bill Evans, chief executive officer and director of St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital in Memphis. Tenn., will deliver a free lecture about
leukemia Tuesday at the School of Pharmacy.

Evans's talk, “Pharmacogenomics of cancer treatment: acute lymphoblastic leukemia as a model disease," will take place in Kerr 1001 at 8:30 a.m.

Evans's research focuses specifically on the genomics of childhood cancer.
His lab’s goals are to elucidate genomic determinants of toxicity and
efficacy of anticancer agents and translate this knowledge into new diagnostics and treatment strategies to optimize the therapy of acute lymphocytic leukemia, also known as acute childhood leukemia.

Evans has been featured on CNN and interviewed on Larry King Live, among other programs. His lab has published numerous amounts of cutting-edge research in high impact journals, including Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Nature, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Blood, Lancet, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The School’s Graduate Student Organization is sponsoring the talk. For more information, contact Shawn Watson at rwatson@email.unc.edu.
