Pharm.D. Students Compete in AMCP P&T Local Competition
February 6, 2019After months of preparation, three teams of Pharm.D. students faced off for the chance to compete for a third straight national championship. Three student teams, hoping to represent the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Foundation’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Competition, presented at the School’s P&T Local Competition on Jan 26. CMO Summit Takes On Medication Mismanagement
January 22, 2019The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the School’s Center for Medication Optimization brought together leaders from across the health care industry to highlight the multi-billion dollar problem of medication mismanagement and develop collaborative medication optimization strategies that aim to transform health care. Anselmo Authors Review of Biologics Delivery Strategies
December 5, 2018Biological pharmaceutical products are becoming increasingly utilized in the clinic, setting off corresponding changes in the development of drug delivery technologies, according to a new paper from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The review, written by Aaron Anselmo, Ph.D., and collaborators, was published in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery on Nov. 30. Anselmo is an assistant professor in the School’s Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics. His paper, “Non-Invasive Delivery Strategies for Biologics,” assesses the academic and industry efforts to develop new delivery strategies for biologics. November 1, 2018The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Deerfield Management have entered into a partnership to create Pinnacle Hill, LLC., a company seeking to discover new medicines to address the significant unmet medical needs of our times. iNClusive STEM Pitch Summit Highlights Female, Minority Entrepreneurs
October 29, 2018Minority and female entrepreneurs gathered at the Rizzo Center on October 11 to participate in the iNClusive STEM Innovation Pitch Summit. The event, co-hosted by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC School of Law, allowed entrepreneurs from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to showcase and pitch their innovations and businesses for the opportunity to receive funding. The event was open to women, African-Americans, Hispanics and American Indians in STEM fields. Third Carolina Nanoformulation Workshop Shares Discoveries in Nanomedicine
April 25, 2018From March 12 to 16, scientists from industry and academia came together at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to learn about the latest advances in nanomedicine and to get hands-on experience with advanced nanoformulations at the third annual Carolina Nanoformulation Workshop. The workshop is a unique blend of classroom and hands-on training that stresses interaction and participation. The 2018 edition featured three days of seminars presented by 21 speakers followed by two days of practical experience in the laboratories of the School’s Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery. UNC Catalyst Hosts NIH/NCATS Assay Guidance Workshop
October 25, 2017The UNC Catalyst for Rare Diseases, together with Promega, sponsored an NIH/NCATS assay guidance workshop for high-throughput screening and lead discovery on Monday, October 23. Forty-nine scientists from academia and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries registered to attend. August 17, 2017Falcon Therapeutics, a company spun out of Assistant Professor Shawn’s Hingtgen’s work treating brain cancer, is one of the ventures contributing to a rise in the economic value of startups connected with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, according to a biannual report on Carolina’s commercial and social ventures. Falcon Therapeutics is advancing a new approach using tumor-homing stems cells to treat glioblastoma cancer, the most common form of primary brain cancer and also one of the deadliest.
