UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Selects New Dean
May 30, 2019The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has selected Angela Kashuba, B.Sc.Phm., Pharm.D., DABCP, FCP, to be the next dean of the School. Kim Brouwer honored as Inventor of the Year
May 24, 2019UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Kim L. R. Brouwer, Pharm.D., Ph.D., was distinguished as Inventor of the Year during the 2019 UNC Celebration of Inventorship, on May 23. During the celebration, the UNC Office of Technology Commercialization presents the Inventor of the Year Award to a UNC-Chapel Hill innovator in recognition of their contributions to inventions and patents. Beaudoin, Vogt Earn NIH Predoctoral Research Grants
March 27, 2019Two Ph.D. candidates at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy recently received National Research Service Awards from the National Institutes of Health. Jim Beaudoin, from the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, and Caleb Vogt, from the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, received the NRSA grants. Beaudoin is advised by Kim Brouwer, Pharm.D., Ph.D., and Vogt is advised by Jeff Aubé, Ph.D. The NIH grant, known also as an F31, is awarded to promising predoctoral students so that they can obtain individualized, mentored research training while conducting dissertation research. UNC Study Reveals Precision Oncology Insights for Colorectal Cancer
March 25, 2019Next-generation sequencing of tumor DNA from patients with colorectal cancer revealed genetic alterations that were linked to different survival and treatment outcomes in an analysis led by a researcher at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Martin, Hanafin Win Presidential Trainee Awards from ASCPT
March 4, 2019Two students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy were awarded the Presidential Trainee Award from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Jesse Martin and Patrick Hanafin were among the 17 recipients of the award, which recognizes the top scoring abstracts submitted by clinical pharmacologists in training. Martin also received the ASCPT Jason Morrow Trainee Award for the second-highest scoring trainee abstract submitted. The award includes a $1,000 prize. Jackie Gerhart Wins BAHM Case Competition
February 27, 2019Jackie Gerhart, a Ph.D. student at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, took first place at the Business School Alliance for Health Management Case Competition at Harvard Business School on Feb. 9. Gerhart and her partner, Aditi Borde, a dual MHA/MBA candidate, won a $10,000 first place prize for their pitch idea for a partnership with Walmart and Blue Cross Blue Shield NC to develop an incentivized diabetes management program for rural communities. Paavo Honkakoski Receives Keohane Professorship
February 25, 2019Paavo Honkakoski, Ph.D., a global expert on nuclear receptors, will return to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a recipient of the Nannerl O. Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professorship in 2019-20. Honkakoski is a professor of Biopharmacy at the School of Pharmacy and Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland. Gonzalez Receives $2M NIH Grant for Project on Childhood Obesity
October 9, 2018Daniel Gonzalez, Pharm.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, received a $2 million NIH Research Project Grant for research focused on drug dosing in children with obesity. Gonzalez’s proposal aims to find a systematic approach to the development and evaluation of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic models to help treat children with obesity. September 24, 2018Daniel Crona, Pharm.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, was awarded the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Research Institute Futures Grant Junior Investigator Award.
