Foundation Dinner
More than 150 donors, students, and faculty attended the annual Pharmacy Foundation Dinner at the Carolina Club August 23. David S. Moody Jr. (’73 BSPhar) received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pharmacy Alumni Association, an honor bestowed each year at the event.
The Pharmacy Foundation Dinner is held each year to thank the School of Pharmacy’s most generous supporters and allow students to meet the people who make their scholarships possible. Matt Kupec, UNC’s vice chancellor for university advancement, was the featured speaker at this year’s event. He recounted some of the earliest examples of philanthropy at the university and highlighted the School of Pharmacy’s fundraising successes during the Carolina First campaign.
Moody is executive vice president and chief executive officer of Mutual Wholesale Drug Company.
“Dave Moody is an alumnus who makes me proud to be a part of this school,” said Bob Blouin, dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. “His contributions to both the business and the practice of pharmacy at the local and national levels are truly outstanding.”
Moody serves on the board of directors of the Association of Community Pharmacists, Community Care Rx, Healthcare Distribution Management Association, Pharmacy First, and Pharmacy Providers of the Southeast, LLC. He also serves on advisory boards for Berlex Laboratories, the Campbell University School of Pharmacy Curriculum Committee, and the Medical University of South Carolina, among others. He serves as a preceptor for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the Campbell University School of Pharmacy.
Mutual Drug was formed in 1952 to provide competitive prices on merchandise and services critical to independent pharmacies. There are more than 425 independent pharmacies operating in Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina that are members of Mutual Drug with over 1,000 pharmacists offering a wide range of services for their customers.
The PAA Distinguished Service Award is given annually to an alumnus or alumna of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy whose accomplishments and contributions have enhanced the School of Pharmacy and the profession of pharmacy at the local, state, national, or international level.
