Tuition and Financial Aid
The University of North Carolina at Chapel at Hill provides students an outstanding education at a low cost that continuously earns UNC top positions in best-value rankings of universities.
Tuition and Costs
Estimated total costs for in-state students for one academic year for graduate study at UNC is $26,094and $40,492 for out-of-state students. Current tuition (included in the total cost) is $5,413 for in-state students and $19,811 for out-of-state students. Click here for more details.
Outstanding applicants may be eligible for a range of financial aid and awards. The assignment of assistantships and fellowships begins in January for students entering in the spring or fall, and nomination deadlines for University fellowships typically are before January 1. The School of Pharmacy strongly encourage applicants to apply by December 1 to be considered for all graduate school fellowships.
Financial Aid and Support
School of Pharmacy works to offer all graduate students equal financial support. Consequently, a student's admission into a one of our divisions is contingent upon the available funds (for example, stipends for applicants from the state of North Carolina or stipends plus a waiver of out-of-state tuition for all other applicants). Only a limited number of tuition waivers are available to out-of-state students to reduce their tuition to the in-state rate. The School's faculty awards these waivers on a competitive basis.
Departmental Teaching and Research Assistantships
Teaching and research assistantships available to graduate students in the School of Pharmacy provide a stipend of $22,500 plus in-state tuition for twelve months of service (approximately fifteen hours per week), as well as health insurance. All awards are given on a competitive basis with consideration given to the applicant’s academic record, Graduate Record Examination scores, and proficiency in the English language.
University Fellowships and Assistantships
The UNC Graduate School provides information and support to students applying for external fellowships, as well as fellowships and other direct financial support to students. The University, the Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina, and a variety of private organizations and pharmaceutical companies sponsor fellowships for qualified graduate students. - GEM – National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science
- David and Lucile Packard Foundation
- PhRMA – Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Foundation
Deadlines
All applications from prospective candidates for Graduate School awards must be received by January 1. Announcement of Graduate School awards is made in early March.
Applications for departmental awards may be received after January 1. However, the likelihood that funds will be available to support a student is higher when the applications are received early.
