Global Engagement Fellowship

The Global Engagement Fellowship was created in 2013 to help enable the School’s global aspirations and to prepare global pharmacy leaders within academic institutions and healthcare organizations.

The Global Engagement Fellowship is structured as a two-year training program based at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, NC. The fellow will work with and report to the Associate Dean for Global Engagement, Stephen Eckel, Pharm.D., M.H.A. and Director of Global Engagement, David Steeb, Pharm.D., in performing the following activities:

  • Initiate, evaluate, and maintain strategic international partnerships with academic institutions, governments, and health care organizations
  • Develop new and evolve current global engagement initiatives (see below)
  • Engage key university stakeholders and collaborate with other UNC health affairs schools and UNC Global
  • Identify and provide due diligence on global opportunities for students, faculty, and the School
  • Assist faculty in developing international relationships
  • Serve as a resource for School-based and inter-institutional committees on international initiatives
  • Assist in reciprocal visits by UNC and foreign delegations
  • Conduct global health and education research with faculty members at UNC and other schools and colleges of pharmacy abroad

The Global Engagement Fellow will have the opportunity to:

  • Understand global engagement activities at other academic institutions and healthcare organizations
  • Develop cultural competency and awareness through virtual and in person interactions
  • Develop international communication skills to be an effective global leader
  • Facilitate cross-cultural teamwork and collaboration
  • Impact global health and education within the profession of pharmacy through scholarship

Ideal candidates will have an in depth knowledge of the profession of pharmacy, the ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse and international populations, effective communication skills, research and/or clinical experience, evidence of leadership, and the desire to make a difference on an international stage. Prior international experience is preferred, but not required. Residency training is also not required, but will be considered.
