Academic Assistance
Academic Advising
All PharmD students are assigned an adviser when they begin the program. Advisers can offer assistance to students in numerous ways, including: selecting electives, offering advice during academic difficulty, career planning, and mentoring. It is each student’s responsibility to know the identity of his or her adviser. Every student should schedule a meeting at least once a semester with his or her adviser, even if the student is not having academic difficulty.
Tutoring
Tutoring services are available for PharmD students with a true academic need. To qualify for tutoring, students must meet criteria for both "resource utilization" and "academic need" as outlined below:
Resource utilization criteria (must meet all three):
1. Student must be consistently utilizing the academic assistance provided by teaching assistants during office hours and other scheduled times.
2. Student must be consistently utilizing the academic assistance provided by the course director/instructor during office hours and other scheduled times.
3. Student must be consistently attending any review sessions and/or recitation/review sessions offered for the course.
Academic need criteria (must meet at least one):
1. Student is currently on academic probation.
2. Student is requesting help for a course that is being repeated due to a failing grade.
3. Student has a cumulative pharmacy GPA below 2.5.
4. Student has performed below average (C- or below) on an exam in the given course.
Below is listed the process for requesting a tutor:
1. Student reviews the tutoring eligibility criteria to determine if he/she qualifies for tutoring.
2. Student applies for tutoring using the online request form: Spring 2012 Tutor Request Form
3. The Office of Student Services verifies student's eligibility for tutoring by communicating with teaching assistants and course director/instructor.
4. If eligible, student is assigned tutor.
5. Tutor is notified of student assignment and contacts the student to schedule tutoring appointment.
6. Tutor and student hold tutoring session.
