Editing Basics
To change content on a page, you must have been assigned access to edit it. If you’d like to get access to edit a part of the Web site, please contact John Zhu or David Etchison in the School’s Office of Communications.
Once they have given you access, you will need to log in to the site.
After logging in, go to the page you want to edit. If you have permission to edit it, you should see a couple rows of editing buttons near the top of the page:

You might also notice that the appearance of the page has now changed a bit. There is a green box around the content area, and some photos might look like their placement is slightly off. Bear in mind that this is just an approximation of what the page will look like. To see exactly what the page would look like, you need to log out and then reload the page.
To edit the page you are on, click the “Edit” button in the row of buttons:

This takes you into editing mode. The content area of the page now looks something like this:

A quick look at the text fields:
- Title: The name of the page. Whatever goes in here is what will show up as the page title and in the navigation tree.
- Description: You can put a description of what this page is. For pages, whatever you put in this box will appear as plain text at the top of the page. You don’t need to put anything in this box, and we generally leave it blank.
- Body Text: This is where you put the actual content of the page. Note that just above this text box, there a multi-row toolbar with editing icons similar to those you would find in Microsoft Word (click here for a list of what each icon does). You can use these to style your text and images, much like in Word. If you move your mouse cursor over one of these icons, a little text box appears telling you what that icon does.

Make whatever changes you need to. When you are done, make sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save” button.

During and after the editing process, DO NOT hit the Back button on your browser, or you may end up losing or undoing changes you’ve made. If you need to exit editing mode without saving the changes you made, scroll to the bottom and click the “Cancel” button.
